Hi,

Has anyone had an experience in coming off Aziothiaprine? if so what were ? and over what timescale did you withdraw.

I am on 150mg and have been asked to reduce to zero by 50mg per month.

Thanks in advance

Les

Sorry no, presumably you will be monitored during this time? MaryF

I have, but it was unusual in both instances. I was suspected to be suffering a reaction to Aziothioprine. I stopped instantly, but had been taking it for a week, not balanced dose.

A few months later, they tried it again, as the thought was that it may have interacted with the many other drugs I was on the first time. It wasn't, I reacted after a few hours.

I would imagine it will be like reducing steroid doses - reduce steadily. I guess from my experiences, it flushes out of the system quite quickly, but they don't want to switch you from 150 to 0 in one jump.

Hi I was azathioprine for 4 years can't remember the exact dosage but I was advised to reduce slowly I think it took me about 3-4 months, so 50mg a month would sound okay. Is your inr monitored regularly? I can't recall having any side effects . Wishing you all the best
