Hi ladies , please can I ask what you ladies have taken for the menopause when on warfarin. Talked to the warfarin clinic and they don’t have a clue what to suggest, help 😭

The first thing to be aware of is, that your GP must be guided by your main Hughes Syndrome/APS Specialist, I enclose something from Thrombosis UK and Prof B Hunt: thrombosisuk.org/admin/reso.... I hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Cant help with warfarin but I was put on clonadine to help with sweats.

After hysterectomy went through mega 6 mths of menopause, cold turkey but the clonidine helped.

Empathy for you xx

Hi, I went to see my GP who basically said the only thing she could give me were antidepressants! Apparently one of their side effects is they stop sweating. I declined her offer.

Currently I take a menopause support tablet daily (supermarket own brand, £3 a pack of 30). I also take a sage tablet daily to help manage night sweats.

Hope this helps

I discussed this briefly with Prof Cohen, I currently take provera to stop my periods as I had terrible endometriosis. As I’ve only just been diagnosed at the moment her advice was to stay as I am.

But I will need to transition and she said when I do that HRT delivered through a patch is better for women on warfarin.

Luckily I’m not really having the sweats , just mood is up and down and feel really off , think I will send an email to my consultant x

Hi I have been told that it is fine to take HRT as patch not tablet form as they bypass the liver. My GP just said a flat out no didn’t want to touch it but my specialist said it’s fine if it’s the right form and he wrote to my GP to confirm this.

I took nothing during menopause. I'mon the other side now. I did take a topical progesterone cream before menopause to reduce excessive menstrual bleeds. The cream must be locally compounded as the shelf life is very small. But it sure did help! When menopause came I no longer needed the cream so -- bye bye to hormone therapy.

Hi

I use Estradiol pessaries (vagifem) 10 micrograms which have been fine. This is the only form of HRT that my doctor will allow me to have.

I was on HRT for 20 years , absolutely loved it, a topical gel and a mirena coil , sadly when I was diagnosed in March my specialist told me to come off it and not take in any form ! It's been tough as it suited me well , all I use now are the Vagifem pessaries which are fine but obviously only for that area!

Somewhere on here I read that the current guidelines on HRT and APS were about to be updated for the better but I'm not heard any updates as yet !

Hope you find a solution, HRT was wonderful for me and I was sad to come off it.

Hi, I've just been diagnosed and haematologist spoke to my GP about my HRT medication. I am on patches but they are not available at the moment in this country. They have now prescribed me estradiol gel to use daily and a progesterone pill to take daily. They did need to check with an expert apparently. I'm due to start warfarin as soon as the appointment comes through. They are hoping I won't need to be on it for to long. Been using HRT for about 3 years now.
