Just back from Gynecology Appointment where I was told that because of my APS and Warfarin use that I would not be able to have any such procedures.

Have any of you been told the same ?

I do not know about those specific procedures but I had open heart surgery when I was on Warfarin. I had to convert to Fragmin for the week before surgery and then restart Warfarin, after surgery, keeping the Fragmin going until my INR was back in range.

Thanks for the response Dave

I have already asked for a second opinion, as I am having another procedure next Friday following the same protocol you described for your open heart surgery re Fragmin starting Monday.

For them this is not an issue and careful management.

So feeling confused as to why Ablation and or Hysterectomy due to APS and warfarin are different.......

Thank you for the info ;)

My first period after starting Xarelto was awful, 16 days long. I called my OBGYN and talked to him on the phone. He was quick to talk about the ablation procedure and scheduled me for a pre-op appt. He told me he would not do it in the outpatient part of Yale Hospital in case there was any complications. I was told I would leave soon after if everything went OK. I had it done before my next period started. Two days before the procedure I stopped Xarelto and took heparin. I had general anesthesia and woke up in recovery feeling just fine. I went home a couple of hours later. No period for the next couple of months and then the next 2 months it was very light for 1 day. For the past 8 months I am period free, YEAH!

That's incorrect. Because of my APS I have to take Coumadin. My cycles were horrible. They lasted 10 days and I stayed close to home. I had an ablation done several years ago. Best thing I ever did! My gynecologist worked with my hematologist to manage my anti coagulation. The ablation is done either with thermal balloon to scald out the endometrial layer or it's scraped out.

My doc says you just have to make arrangements to temporarily stop (night before the surgery) and begin again immediately after the procedure...2nd opinion sounds like a good idea.

I was diagnosed with APS in 2001 - had total of 7 miscarriages and eventually had radical hysterectomy in 2006 - after years of problems. Mind you nobody new what aps was so I went untreated until this year and took 3 dvt's to get looked after - one of them while I was on warfarin
