Does anyone get extreme itching on their legs and feet? Is this a by product of having APS? how do I stop this?

Hi, has your GP tested your D, B, Ferritin (iron) and your Thyroid..... I had bad itchy feet and legs even after the D, B and iron was sorted, but once I got my Thyroid more on track it calmed down, despite the fact I have Psoriarsis which is also calming down. MaryF

I know I am low on Vitamin D - I am suspecting Iron as well as B - They have checked my Thyroid and said it is fine but I think, at your reccomendation, I have hypothyroidism - is there a test for that?

Getting your levels of Iron, B and D up is pretty crucial and unfortunately the test for the Thyroid, (including Hypo thyroidism is the highly unreliable TSH test), however at some point it may show up if you have it, mine did in the end, but not before I had suffered for years. MaryF

Hi

The skin on my lower legs has become very sensitive and this started around the time I found out I had APS. I have also developed peripheral neuropathy and the dermatologist found small vessel vasculitis in a skin biopsy from my calf.

The one thing that has helped has been below knee support stockings which I get on prescription. Also Dermol cream ( also on prescription) is very good for itchy dry skin.

Hope this helps.

Antihistamines effect my asthma sadly.....:-(

I have suffered several episodes of severe itching on my shins...a few inches above

ankle and extending about 8 inches towards knee....my MD says its small vessels

broken under skin....twice it became so severe (nothing worked except calamine lotion and ice)I had to take a 5 day course of steroids..I do not like taking steroids but the itching was getting worse and lasted for weeks........I figured out that if I scratch and get the smallest broken skin an infection

settles in and the itching and swelling getts worse.

I now keep area moisten /use vaseline....and as long as the skin is not broken

( I have very thin skin in the area) all is well soo far

Hi

I've also had intermittent itching on my ankles, back of my hands and most recently on my scalp. I've never had this until recently (was diagnosed with APS 3 years ago). A recent routine blood test showed a deficiency in Iron & vitamin D which I'm taking supplements for. The itching is subsiding but as ever I can't say this is linked to the supplements or coincidental! I use pure Aloe Vera gel on my skin when needed which helps.

Yes, I am troubled by an itchy right calf and other symptoms that all point to thyroid. I suffered with hyperthyroidism 14 years ago and was clear after treatment, but tests now keep coming back clear. I can feel the goitre in my neck but unfortunately it is just one thing on a list!
