Starting Arixtra and coumadin today...

So I'm six days post op from laproscopic surgery for a hemmhoraging ovarian cyst and my hematologist is starting me back on coumadin along with two days of Arixtra. About 2 1/2 years ago I tried lovenox and felt very agitated and uncomfortable on it should I expect similar side effects from the Arixtra? Has anyone taken Arixtra that can tell me what their experiences have been? Thanks, Jen

Just to clarify: Arixtra is not LMW heparin. It has a similar effect on the clotting cascade, but is not a heparin. Indeed, it is used as one treatment for heparin-induced thrombocytopenia--a dangerous hypercoagulable condition where heparin must be avoided.

I have a tendency to have reactions to almost everything. I started with clexane from Prof. Khastma in London. I live in CA.,USA. & clexane is not available here. So 1st they gave me Lovenox & I felt like I swallowed hot chili peppers, then my throat swelled. I was then given Arixtra I felt ok but my body, legs & feet swelled. I didn't fell strange or anxious. It was ok but it wasn't as good as the clexane for me. I called FDA here in the US. They told me that all these drugs are biological drugs & they can very you will only be on it for a few days until the Coumadin reaches the INR that works best for you. Best of luck Designer16

Are you on coumadin now? I Think it is the same as warfarin in Sweden. How do you manage now?

I had no reaction to the Arixtra and I am going in for an INR check tomorrow, so hopefully all goes well. Thanks Jen
