my irn to day is 8 how long take go down and what best food to eat
inr sorry
Hi Dawn.
Who tested it today?
If it is 8 you should miss a dose today, I think, and have another test tomorrow.
Dave
Hi hon
Have they lowered your warfarin dose? When are they checking Inr again? Could go down anytime hon, warfarin takes about 3 days to work through the body, greens are rich in vit k, which will lower your Inr, however I think it's better to eat as you usually do.
Take care gentle hugs love Sheena xxxxx
at gp and call me miss 2 days
Hopefully they are going to re-test you in 2 days?! And again in 3 or 4 days makes sure you don't drop too low ..... What is your range?
Take care
Lesley
Hi, have you got a diet sheet, certainly there have been some good ones loaded up on here, I think APSnotFab did one under another post: Perhaps she knows where it is, but I will have a look. Mary F x
Hi there Dawn, how is the INR? Coming down hopefully to within range
Oh dear, and ALL my fault!! Mary F x
For me if mine gets higher than I am happy with, it's never been above 5,I eat several heads of broccoli.
Mine can fall quite a lot by morning.
Have your GPs not given you any diet advice?
no only yellow book dont real know what best to eat
Hi ya mine was 5.3 last week they told me to miss two days and now it's bk to 3 within range. Hope ur ok and it comes down again they told me mine was a sudden drop an would test again next week. Xx
ty for help xx
Everyone is different, you need to test every day until your INR is back in range.
There is a list of foods high in vitamin K which will affect INR but you need to have proper INR monitoring. Be advised cranberry products can send INR sky high.
Mine was 8 a few weeks ago, I was given vitamin k and told to withhold warfarin, next day INR was well below theraputic range, good job I had it tested. Then later it was 7.1, so the doc said just miss a day, it went down to 4.3, which is where my INR is supposed to be. I have been asked to attend heemo docs clinic on Thursday to address haywire INRs.
Hi Dawn,
Base on my own experience, as I used to have the blood out of control, sometimes my INR was 10, as an advice, try not to eat lettuce at all, or green vegetables, but over all lettuce. According to my haematologist, Prof Hunt in St, Thomas hospital, lettuce has a lot of vitamin K and this vitamin is what make the blood goes out of control. Since I banished lettuce from my diet my INR is in range: 3.5 and now I don't have to go to the acticoagulant clinic every single week, now I go once a month.
Take care

Haemo specialist I saw last week asked me to eat a portion of cooked broccoli every day. He said they are finding their patients with peaks and troughs from high to low INR are not eating a consistent amount of vitamin k and as I am a vegetarian he said maybe some days I am getting a lot and other days very little. He said salad veg does not have as much vitamin k as the cabbagy types of veg. He is informing me very clearly that he hopes having this every day will settle it down.
So I will see what my result is on Friday.
