Hi

In reality I found that I could eat most things on Warfarin and some will affect INR - those rich in vitamin K - and others will not. The main thing is to be reasonably consistent in what you eat so that your Warfarin dose can be set to produce, as closely as possible, your target INR.

Foods rich in Vit K will antidote Warfarin to a degree and lower INR, excessive alcohol has a tendancy to enhance the effect of Warfarin and raise INR levels.

I hope that this is helpful.

It may help to think of them in " blood thickening" and " blood thinning" categories.

The thickeners include green leafy veggies,( Note: broccoli is high in K, but it's cousin cauliflower is not. Green cabbage is high in K, but red cabbage is not.)

The primary thinners are cranberries, alcohol, and ginger.

That said, there are so many foods, beverages, meds, activities the effect INR. Learning how to eat and live in a way that keeps the INR consistent is an art. It's a learning process. Start with memorizing, and stabelizingyour consumption of the main thickeners and thinners. Then, chart your meals and activities and seek out more corrolations.

All this said, there are some of us who can not achieve stability on warfarin and must move to other drugs, Which can be a good thing be as you get to eat whatever you want!

However these same items that work against warfarin are the same things that protect against cancer and infections. Rock or hard place?
