I'm on meds since February and I want to try for a baby next month or month after is it possible,I'm so desperate for a baby.

I think they can "wash" semen. I know it's possible. Wait a short while an admin will answer but if it was me I'd ask one of the specialist nurses in my clinic - they are fantastic....

Hi Jordan. The best person to advise you is your HIV doctor to start with. I can tell you from my own experience, that I have two healthy, uninfected daughters - 18 and 16 years old now - and I had no problems in my pregnancies. There is a lot of literature out there and the group that used to be Positively Women and is now something else can give great advice and support too. Are you in London or elsewhere? ( I don't live in London) My husband is also positive.

Dear Jordan,

Living with HIV is no barrier to having children of your own. The chance of passing on the virus to your child is now less than half of one percent that is 0.5%.

You have not mentioned your partners status but even if he is negative you can still have children together.

You mentioned that you started treatment in February, so you should have, or be well on the way, to having an undetectable viral load. If you continue to take all your medications as you should then six months after you have reached undetectable you cannot pass the virus on to your partner, this means you can conceive in the normal way.

The pregnancy guide will explain everything far better than I can in a very understandable way.

I know lots of Women who are living with HIV and have gone on to have children. HIV is not a problem. Both you and your children should live long and I hope happy lives.

I used to work for the Children's HIV Association and their web site is another good source of information that you might fine useful once you have your new baby. The CHIVA site is huge so the following link is probably the most useful chiva.org.uk/parent/
