My nephew was playing with rubbing alcohol and decided to pour one in my hiv meds dispenser. About five tablets got obvious damage and the other ones were 100% good based on physical appearance. Should I keep taking the good ones and throw the other five damaged ones? Or should I just discard the whole bottle?

HELP! My HIV meds got wet
HIV medicines are very expensive , it is immoral to throw them away . The undamaged tablets will be fine , and the five damaged ones most likely will be too - but discard them if you feel unhappy using them . I regularly use medicines long out of date , most recently some pain killers that were 14 years out and antibiotics that were 7 years , and they worked absolutely fine !
How many other tablets were in the container ? Were the ones not obviously damaged coated in the rubbing alcohol ? Remember all rubbing alcohols are unsafe for human consumption. I think if they are contaminated with it , I would not be taking them and seek a replacement bottle.
Griffon not all HIV medicines are expensive these days - there are generics of many now widely available - but certain ones can be .
The american military recently did some experiments on out of date medicines and many were still effective - but you cant assume this across the board, and I would still recommend taking in date medicines only ( the final day of the month of the expiry date )
Hi appreciate your reply. I decided to keep the ones that were still in pristine condition. To be honest, i don’t know if they were coated and the alcohol eventually evaporated all i know is that the medicines at the bottom of the container had serious damage. It is mushy in texture and it looked like some of it blistered. But the amount of alcohol poured is maybe less than 1ml.
