Hi to all that read this....... In 1974 I had a blood transfusion after a knife attack. In the 1980's I thought I would be a good citizen and give blood. Imagine my surprise when I was asked to go to Birmingham Blood Transfusion Unit as they had found a none A none B hep virus which was unknown in my sample. When asked if it would effect my children, my partner their answer was they didn't know so I insisted my children and partner were checked for it. Nothing came back. Roll on until the beginning of the 2000. I was blood tested and found to have Hep C. My brilliant Consultant and special nurses got me through the trauma of being diagnosed and having to inject myself with interferon injections. I was advised by my medical care staff to claim compensation against the Shipton claim scheme as the NHS were aware of the problem but it was kept quiet. Anyone want anymore information contact me ........

Hi Stevita our son just got diagnosed with cirrhosis caused by Hep C September 18 cause would need to be the multiple blood transfusions in 1980 when he was a Renal patient I had to leave my work to care for him.

He was given a 16wk treatment of marvet and the treatment seemed to work to clear the Hep C but he’s left with Cirrhosis of the liver

We were advised about the fund also and completed our form in December and gave it to the consultant who filled parts out and then gave it to the renal consultant who is trying to trace the blood transfusion records which will all probably be destroyed by now.

Let’s hope it doesn’t take much longer as this would benefit him with getting into his own home
