Hi, If you had hep C and were cured (determined by a negative PCR result 6 months or more after your treatment ended) then you do not have hepatitis C. You will always test positive for antibodies but that does not mean you are at risk of worsening illness nor are you infectious - it is just a memory in the body that you have been exposed in the past to hepatitis C. If you are in anyway unsure, then it is the PCR test only that will determine whether you have hep C or not . See here hepctrust.org.uk/informatio...

Thanks for your response. So it just shows positive for the antibody but I don’t have the virus? I still need to have labs done in October and January to be sure

Yes an antibody result just confirms that you have been exposed to hep C, not that you currently have hep C - only a PCR can determine current infection. Unless you have been exposed to hepatitis C again since finishing a successful treatment, you are ok.

Thank you. I have October and January to check again.

Is it not possible for them to do a PCR for you now? Then you wouldn't need to wait till October to know your situation

I will email my primary doctor and ask her about it. I really don’t need anymore health issues as I have PBC and it’s causing my liver with early Cirrhosis. Thank you again.

I'm sorry to hear that, but please keep us posted and let me know if there is anything we can do to help. For information or support around PBC you may find britishlivertrust.org.uk helpful
