Abilation

Hi allI had my AVR done in May this year, initially I had issues with heart rate jumping around 147. My medications were Bisoprolol 7.5 mg along with standard water tablets and blood thinners.Couple of months after the procedure I had to go A&E for this heart rate procedure but I was either given digoxin or they topped up Bisoprolol medication. I still had issues with dizziness and high heart rate. After my consultation with the cardiologist they changed my medication to AdiEm XL 300. I am feeling much better but still have occasional high heat rate at times I get dizziness but generally ok.My heart failure nurse had contacted by cardiologist team with regards to this and are thinking about doing ablation procedure. Has anyone been through the same situation and do you think ablation procedure is a good idea.

Appreciate your responses.Regards

I had similar post ablation problems. I realised like any other muscle the heart was very tender and susceptible to sudden adrenalin increases after having laser burns.Stopping all alcohol and caffeine plus calming psychology effected a complete recovery within 12 months.

6 years on I have never gone back onto alcohol or caffeine and am completely stable. No racing heart, no ectopics and blood pressure of a young man.

I also have a low dairy, low saturated fat diet.

I'm 81 and still able to enjoy skiing and fell walking.

Hope you feel better soon.

As far as bisoprolol goes I have been on it 1.25 mg because I had an episode of arrhythmia a year ago. The bisoprolol brought my resting heart beat down to between 40 and 44 especially in the evening. I was not put on blood thinners. My cardiologist in the beginning spoke of putting in a pacemaker but then did not talk about it anymore, so I continue to live with the low heart beat. My GP told me it's quite ok to have such a low heart beat. Ideally I like to stop the bisoprolol as I did not have a repeat of the long arrhythmia to date but was told I have short bursts of atrial fibrillation so to continue taking the bisoprolol. My heart is fine otherwise. My cardiologist also told me that abilation is not a good option in general. I hope relating my experience with bisoprolol helps. Wishing you suçess with whatever you decided.
