Hi I don’t think Apixaban would cause your gums to bleed although bleeding could be worse because it’s an anti-clotting agent. More likely you need to see dental hygienist for a deep clean? All best

There is little doubt that any anti coagulant would make you bleed more easily. However if you've been taking Apixaban for a while and the gum bleeding has just started yes I would see a dentist.

Appointment at dentist booked. As expected a few weeks wait.

If this was spontaneous bleeding ETHEL103, then it should certainly be investigated, because although Apixaban can cause bleeding from the gums and I do suffer from that from time to time, it's when tooth cleaning is going on and at least a little pressure is being applied. If it's happening during tooth brushing, then it can help if you make sure you do everything gently in your dental care. Use a soft brush only, and don't use interdental brushes or floss. (I switched to using a water pick set to 'soft' which has helped a lot). Work with your dentist to make sure there's no underlying gum disease, or injury, or anything else nasty going on inside your mouth. But don't think that you just have to put up with this. You could maybe be switched to a different anti-coagulant if it continues.

CoQ10 is meant to be very good for gums, so you could take this (start at 100mg) while you wait. If you take statins then you need more of it, as the statins prevent the body making it's own. A diet high in fruit and vegetables, and low in red meat and dairy products should help too.

And please make sure you take the reduced form of Q10 - Ubiquinol - has to be listed as such on the box. Also more expensive but does the job.
