Atrial flutter

I have had atrial fibrillation for 12 years largely controlled by medication. However I also have atrial flutter which the meds don’t seem to touch. This happens every time I wake up, starting about 5am though sometimes earlier. I don’t know whether it’s because I wake up or it wakes me up. For a couple of years it only lasted seconds but now it’s minutes. If I return to sleep I will keep waking flutter sleep wake flutter etc. I am on the list for ablation but it’s a long list! Anyone help me on this? Why it happens and what if anything I could do please?
