Complications after Total Hysterectomy

Now into my 9th week after a total hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo oopherectomy and excision for Stage 4 Endometriosis.

Having bladder issues and constant feeling of downward pressure and discomfort inside. I can’t sit for long, walking is uncomfortable and can’t seem to do too much as I get sore and tender and very tired.

Had my post op appointment today and they tried to do the examinations.... to check vaginal cuff healing okay etc and it was excruciatingly painful that consultant couldn’t do it. I was in tears due to the pain.

With the symptoms I am having he wants to do a scan to check for a Haematoma which could be affecting my bladder or maybe a vaginal cuff tear etc.

Anyone else have complications like this after hysterectomy? What did they do?

Feeling frustrated and defeated! 😕

Hi there- sorry to hear of your problems - sound very painful. I have had problems but none similar to yours - hope you are able to get sorted soon xx

Aww... you poor girl. I feel for you. I hope and pray that you recover quickly from this pain. I did not experience exactly what you have but certainly had bladder issues after 5 weeks having a catheter in me. Still have issues. My surgery was back in January 2019 (radical hysterectomy for stage 1b cervical cancer) and still not feeling like my old self. Hang in there and don't give up. Life is good. Best wishes...

Hey,

Don't you give up. Don't you feel defeated girl! We're women. Strong species. Everyone of us has gone through if not still going through some stuff after surgery.

I had TAH-BSO. One thing I'll advise: TAKE BABY STEPS TO HEALING AND RECOVERY. Exercising is a must. Gradual walks. Keep it short. Don't overdo it. Belly and tummy pains and bloating are part of the road to recovery. Don't move much. Don't seat much. Rest more. High fibre foods are going to help you with indigestion. Take warm water instead of cold. Same to showers. When lying down put a pillow or support under your feet for better flow of blood. A firm mattress will help you to avoid more back related pains.

Peppermint tea helps with bloating. A member recommended it here and I seen it work.

Above all, take your meds, check with your surgeon frequently when you feel overwhelmed. Laugh less. Guess you know why.

Lastly, have family, friends and loved ones' support. Those who think positive thoughts around you. Those who encourage you and bring the best out of you.

It shall be well.
