Pressure after op

Had a total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo oopherectomy with excision plus Endometriosis shaven off bladder and bowel on August 12th. It’s been approx 6 weeks now and I am experiencing weird pressure feeling inside. Don’t know whether it’s my bladder or vaginal cuff or something else but it is very uncomfortable at the moment and is affecting my sleep too. After operation i had problems with my bladder. Almost wasn’t discharged following day as I was having problems emptying my bladder. It was also very painful. My husband drove me home once I was finally discharged and had to make 4 pit stops throughout the hour journey home, as it was so painful that I had to go to the toilet. A week later I discovered through a gp visit I had a urine test done which was positive for a UTI and vaginal swab taken which came back as ‘borderline’. Went on antibiotics (specific for UTI ) for 7 days and was fine after although urinating still not comfortable... more frequent also. 6 weeks of this uncomfortable feeling I now also have a real downward pressure feeling inside which is making me worry. My post op appointment with my consultant is not till Mid October.

Any thoughts or advice welcome or own experiences in this area.

Thank you. 🙂

Hi

I had the same op as you, just over 3 years ago.

I recall odd feelings of pressure/dragging and a need to urinate, even though it was sometimes a trickle. I was told that this was normal and the bowel/bladder etc had to settle and ease into the space that had been taken by my uterus.

You will have been in surgery for some time and catheterised. All significant trauma internally.

I found neurofen, drinking plenty of water, gentle walking and resting, all helpful.

I did not have a UTI though, and my advice to you, is to see your GP again, and get rechecked.

Good, luck 🙂

Yet another visit to my GP with same issue.

However, this dr told me that my last test was negative which I was surprised about as I was told it was positive and put on antibiotics. Anyway this time dipstick test was negative but she is going to send it off for culture. Have to wait 5 days for result. If it comes back negative the dr said it could possibly be ‘ Urethral Stricture’.

If this is so it could be due to the Foley catheter they used.

I’m really hoping it’s just what you have mentioned and that I don’t need to make more hospital visits. 😐

How long did you have those symptoms for?

I’ve had them for over 6 weeks now.

I am going to ring the consultant’s secretary just to pass on my concerns with a few questions also.

It took about 3 months. I recall having my post-op consultation at about 6weeks. I still had a discharge, and this worried me. I was told that the internal stitches (of course my vaginal cuff was stitched) would take up to 8 weeks to settle. Sure enough, it started to ease, but it was more like 3 months to settle.

Regardless of my experience, go back to your GP and keep going back until you feel right.

Good luck xx

So 3 years on .... how are you? 🙂

Really good. It's taken a couple of years though. I didn't have HRT and again, my consultant was accurate in her view that I would recover easily from the physical impact, but it would be surgical menopause that would hit me. More so because I was determined to do it HRT free.

I've learned to respect and listen to my body. Rest when I need to and get over the idea that I could do everything and ask for help when needed. I wasn't good at all of that before.

My endo pain and swelling have gone. My body isn't as inflamed.

I do recall my life before and I recognise how ill I was.

🙂👍
