Well ladies I had my hysterectomy on Tuesday, felt great afterwards (obviously the drugs were good, haha). Yesterday wasn't too bad, but omg I've had a rotten night, hardly any sleep, waking every couple of hours. Thursday morning and not stopped being teary, I just want this pain to go. Cant fault the nurses they have been great.

I had one 6 years ago what they didn't tell me was how to get out of bed. I learnt to roll you get to edge of bed and push up with one arm and roll your bum and legs over bed. I'm pain meds were great max codeine and max parasetamol. I ended up discharging my safe after 2 1/2 days because the pain meds hospital where giving me by my drip wasn't getting to my blood stream the needle was blocked and they just kept saying we will sort it in a bit. Also when I came out I downloaded a relaxation app it helped . It seems like the pain will never go away it will cock every day is a step closer to being pain free xx

Thank you. I've learnt to roll as well, so is getting that bit easier. I'm on max paracetamol and one ibuprofen, which is helping. They've given me liquid paracetamol this morning and within minutes the pain had eased a great deal. Think I'm in more pain because I've got wind, lol, and I've not opened my bowels yet, but they are going to give me a tablet tonight that is like a suppository and pain relief as well, so I'm hoping that will work.xx

Ask them to give you warm peppermint cordial for the trapped wind it works a treat

All pretty normal. You've had a major op and you're homones and emotions will be all over the place. Try to relax and sleep when you can. Listen to your body and move a little more each day. Take pain relief when you need it because dealing with pain will make the recovery more difficult. Listening to music helped me, but daytime telly is deadly! Take care and good luck with your recovery. I was thinking of you on Tuesday. Xx

Oh yes, the bowels! Drink plenty of water and orange juice.

Thanks you Rachael, can't wait to get home now just so I can get some proper sleep, I've been sleeping quite a bit while I'm in here, and as much as I like daytime telly they haven't had it on,haha. Thank you.xx

A ward sister told me that people don't rest properly at home. You should have a good morning routine, get a little exercise and fresh air (Storm Doris permitting), have lunch and actually go to bed in the afternoon. Close your curtains and get some proper sleep for a couple of hours if you can. Healing takes up a lot of energy, so don't underestimate how much rest you need. Keep up the painkillers but stay off the codeine if you can manage without it. It'll bung you up good and proper. Good luck, let us know how you are doing. Xx

Thank you, I have already been refusing the codeine, so it's just been paracetamol and ibuprofen, also they have been giving me lactulose, still not had bowel movement but I am passing more wind. Thank you for all your advice.xx

A good strong coffee might get your bowels moving! Mint tea is good for wind, or you can get peppermint capsules (colpermin, I think) on prescription if it's really bad, but they can give you heartburn if you're not careful. Get moving if you can, it will help a lot. Did they take your ovaries as well? That might explain the tearfulness. Hope you get home soon. Xx

No didn't take my ovaries, took my tubes, uterus and cervix. The cut was from hip to hip, and they reopened my caesarian scar, but there was a lot of scar tissue so they had to cut quite a lot away, got metal clips in. I've got peppermint cordial and fybogel and plenty of fruit at home. They are going to give a painkilling suppository so it will help me and ease the discomfort. Will get there eventually, lol. Thank you.xx

Oh, poor you. You must take it easy for a few days. I had adhesions before and after my hysterectomy so I understand some of the pain you were in. Take care x

Morning Mi-chelle44

I hope you had a better night 😕 wind is very painful, walking, ginger tea, and lactulose helped me 😕 I also found the pain worse if I did too much so rest is important. It's very early days, remember to take pain relief to prevent pain, not after it happens ☺

Thinking of you

Thank you Anna. They gave me oramorph last night, but unknown to e my cannula has snapped so the liquid paracetamol hadn't actually gone through. At least when I'm at home I can keep on top of the pain relief. Thank you.xx
