Insomnia after hysterectomy?

Ladies I wondered if any of you had severe insomnia after your hysterectomy?

I had my surgery on the 11th Dec and initially I slept for 12 hours for the first couple of days.

Now I just lay wide awake in bed? I’ve tried hypnosis (recordings) I’ve tried lavender I’ve tried chamomile tea. Nothing is working?

Any suggestions? Thank you x

Hi Sunflower - I am post op by 14 weeks for total removal of all of reproductive system to get rid of endo cancer - successful.

Like u I slept a lot during very early days but then had awful insomnia and tried everything to no avail - but I did find reading immediately before sleep helped a lot - no tv or checking phone - that blocks sleep - now I’m back into reading and sleep not perfect but better - try it!!! Sometimes we try too hard to relax and blocks sleep.

I also have back ups - amtryptaline from GP - low dose - I use a combination of things but reading has helped the most - hope this advice helps - oh also going back to work tires u to a degree and gets u back into a routine.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery xx

Yes! A lot of insomnia!! Until I went back to work full time and then exhausted enough to sleep through. Everything was better by week 10.

Did they take your ovaries? Are you in surgical menopause? Lack of hormones will also keep you awake. I had to adjust my bioidentical hormone creams . Also, once you start exercising again, you will sleep better.

Hi yes they did take my ovaries and luckily I’ve got an appointment at the menopausal clinic tomorrow so I’m going to ask did blood tests as I had them taken prior to surgery so we shall see.

Thank you for your reply x
