Hi, this is my first time here! Next month I will be having a complete hysterectomy along with repairing of both rectal and vaginal prolapse! When it rains it pours! I'm getting more afraid by the day especially after seeing my Dr the other day and her telling me I would probably go home the next day! Golly, this seems a little soon as the surgery will take at least 6 hours she said! I'm 52 years old and have been dealing with these prolapses since July of last year, I'm so ready to have these painful, aggravating symptoms taken care of! Any similar stories out there? By the way , they are doing it by laproscopy. Thank you!

I can't comment about the prolapse repairs, but I had a laparoscopic total hysterectomy in October last year. My surgery took 3 hours. I had the surgery on Tuesday afternoon and went home on Thursday afternoon. I had 4 small cuts - 2 either side of my belly button, one in my belly button which I think was for the camera and the 4th on my old c-section scar. When I came round from surgery one of the side cuts had a drain in it, but the other 3 were dressed. I'm now 11 weeks post-op and feel really well. I find I still need a dose of laculose every couple of days, but my bowels were never very well behaved before surgery either! All I can say is when you're in hospital after surgery keep up your fluid intake and accept all the painkillers you're offered. Once my catheter was removed the morning after the op the nurses had me out of bed and walking. I still had the drain in my side so had to remember to take that with me too!! I felt really well on that day but the next day I felt really rough. I think the "high" from the anesthestic had worn off, and I was in a foul mood with everything and everyone. Once I came home I made sure I still kept up with fluids and regular painkillers and rested as much as I could. I also kept up with the exercises the physio had given me to do in hospital. 11 weeks on I still get tired by the end of the day, but I'm back doing most of what I did before, although still avoiding heavy lifting.

I hope your op goes smoothly and your recovery goes well. Just remember to rest, keep up with fluids and listen to your body!!

Good luck

Lorna

Hello Prolapsedout

I think after all that you have been through you are going to feel much better afterwards ☺

My experience was similar to Lornas, Abdominal Hysterectomy on the Thursday afternoon, mostly in bed Friday but walking around Saturday. I didn't get home until Monday as I bled quite a lot, but have been fine.

Painkillers, regular walking inbetween lots of rest and laxatives for 6 weeks ☺

Good luck and best wishes

Anna
