Back to work tomorrow (had my full hysterectomy 5.5 weeks ago) and feeling very apprehensive. Yesterday I thought I'd try and have a "normal" day of activity without asking for help or having regular rests. After doing two loads of washing, moping the floor, walking along the beach for half an hour and doing the weekly grocery shopping I came home at 11:30 am totally shattered and had to rest (and that's with my husband pushing the shopping trolley and carrying the groceries inside). If my "normal" day had continued I would have spent the rest of the day in the garden or cleaning but there was no way I could do any more.
Worries me how I'm going to last a full day at work. (I'm a special needs teacher). Oh well can only give it a go I guess. I've run out of sick leave and need to get some teaching done so I can write the year end reports for my kids. Sitting for long periods is SOOOOO uncomfortable and I've grown to love lying down on my bed doing jigsaws on my iPad!! Took me ages to learn to "sit still" as I'm normally very active but I have to admit I've enjoyed the rest!!

Hi are you going back to work on reduced hours? Going straight back in to full time hours will be really hard as you are still healing.
I had a TAH and BSO beginning of March and needed 3 months off work. I went back on reduced hours as knew it would be really hard. Don't think I could have coped with full time hours .
Listen to your body and please don't overdo things.
Please let me know you get on! Going back to work after 5.5 weeks seems a bit soon, especially in the job you do! Does your school not offer a phased return like mine? It's my last day tomorrow - my op is Tuesday afternoon!
Gosh. That is soon to be going back to work. I am also 5.5 weeks post op. I feel I am almost back to normal. I am taking the kids to school, doing the housework, walking the dogs etc. I am up all day from 7.30 til 22.30ish with no rests. Despite that I do not feel nearly ready to return to work. I am a midwife and work 12.5 hour shifts. I have been told to stay off work for 12 weeks then I will have a phased return.
I really hope you get on ok. Please be kind to yourself. Take it easy as much as you can. If you really have to go back to work then make sure you are doing as little as possible at home.
Thanks ladies. I work with a great team - one of which had the same thing done four years ago and I know they will be on my case! Will try and behave and will let you know how I get on. Xx
That seems really early to me 😕 I definitely turned a corner at 6 weeks, energy wise, but it then takes a few more weeks to build your stamina back up. 😊 Take care and let others help if they offer!! 😊
After two days back I'm ready for my third day! Sitting is the hardest. If I'm up and moving with the kids it's fine. Have moved my computer so I can stand to use it. Have come home exhausted and needing to rest for a bit. Mentally it has been good for me to start getting back into life! Enjoying teaching again and the kids hugs and smiles to see me again were priceless. Yesterday the kids wanted to sing "Five little monkeys jumping on the bed" and normally I'd jump with them ... after one hop I realised that wasn't going to happen!! Slowly slowly .... just pray that none of my kids try to escape and I need to run!!
Glad you are getting on fine. Each day that goes by, I feel I have a bit more energy. Hopefully you are the same and it will get easier as the days go on. I'm sure you'll be glad to reach the weekend though! x
Thanks. You too. Loving the new mental energy I have ... not feeling it right now though after the dog had diaoreaha all over the carpet, down the hallway and out the door. Lovely start to the day!
