I've just seen my consultant who has said he will give me a hysterectomy by laparoscopy, hopefully in the next month or two.
Can anyone shed any light on the recovery time by having it done this way rather than by the major surgery way as the info they gave me wasn't totally clear.

Hi I had mine done by laparoscopy, I had mine at lunch time I was out of bed by midnight that night, and home the next day, but I didn't stop bleeding for 7months and I didn't recover fully for 18months , but what I will say every one is differant, I my advise to you is when you have it listen to your body, if it says stop ! Stop don't push your body, are you having a full hysterectomy or are they leaving your oviares if they say do you want them removed say yes, then you don't have the worries of ovieran cancer . I still have mine and I get a lot of pain I have spoke to my GP and I waiting to have bloods done depending on what they say, I may have to get my GP to refer me to gyne to get them removed!!!

Hi, thanks for replying. I'm having a full hysterectomy. I'm 50, so I don't need anything left behind!! I've got a large fibroid which needs to come out, so I asked for a hysterectomy at the same time! I'm not good at relaxing, but I guess this is the one time in my life that I'll have to take time and listen to my body!!
I think in general 4 -6 weeks is estimated recovery time, compared to 6-8 for abdominal. Both involve internal surgery, stitches etc but think 'da Vinci' ie via vagina is quicker recovery time 😊

I had mine on Monday afternoon .. Key hole surgery ., was on my feet next day .. Due to collapsed lung they kept me in for 3 days .. 2 weeks after op started walking 30 min few times a week building it up gradually . After 2 weeks was hoovering .. Lifting things I fact lifting the kettle a few days after surgery .. After one month felt great .. Best thing I did .,

I ask for my hysterectomy back when I was 27 but mine was cuz I was have periods that would last for 2months long but they would be so heavy I couldn't leave the house cuz it look like someone had slaughted a pig!!! Then when they stopped I would get about a week of no bleeding then bang I would start to bleed again, the gyne team tried to do a biosy by they couldn't do one cuz I was screaming in pain with them trying to do it, and when they try to do it I was pouring with blood, they said it wasn't right, but didn't know what was wrong with me. I had to under go phyciallical evaluation before they would do mine as well due to my age. The only down side for me is that me and my new husband can't have a baby together which we both really wanted
Hi, I had a LAVH (laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy) I was 61 so like you everything gone, I more or less back to normal after 6-8 weeks though my tummy was still swelling up in the evening and incredibly I am now 2 years post op and my tummy sill complains sometimes, you just have to take things very easy in those first few weeks, I can't stress this strongly enough, you may feel ok but you aren't, don't forget that all of your soft tissue has been cut into even though it is only 3-4 small incisions and your remaining organs then have to settle into different positions, I didn't bleed after about day 3 or 4 I was lucky and I also never needed pain relief after surgery again very lucky.

When you say LAVH is everything removed via the vagina or through one of the lapasroscopy incisions? I asked the consultant how my fibroid would be removed (as well as everything else) and he said my abdomen would be inflated and everything put into a bag and taken out through one of the incisions. I still can't get my head around how an 11cm x 8cm x 11cm fibroid can be removed like that but that's what he told me!
I would ask again as I understood everything was removed vaginally 😕

IndigoBlue61 I've just checked on the NHS website and they can perform a hysterectomy by laparoscopy. But then it says they normally do abdominal surgery to remove fibroids. So I'n fully expecting it to be done abdominally rather rather than by laparoscopy! Otherwise, in my overactive imagination, I can picture trying to get an open umbrella out of a mouse hole!!
Bit sore for the last couple of days, think I was over doing it, plus week 3 is renowned for being tough 😕 So back on paracetamol and currently curled up in bed with a hot water bottle whilst hubby hooveres and my daughter does a tesco run 😊😊😊
Today's methods of surgery all sound really mind boggling don't they? All my bits were removed vaginally, they do pump you full of air (or gas of some kind) the instruments in the incisions I would imagine include a camera, forceps of some kind and something else, I did watch the surgery on Youtube (fascinating)and still can't remember, I didn't have fibroids, I had stage 1A cancer so slightly different to you.

LOL yeah I didn't watch it until after my op though.
I think I'm going to have to watch the video on you tube to see what happens! Sounds a bit gruesome, but I'd like to see how big the fibroid actually is as I can't picture how it fits on my uterus at the size it is! Mind you the consultant said because it's on a stalk it's actually moving round inside me, which is quite scary to be honest and the reason he's putting me on the urgent list in case it twists around itself! Anyway off to look at you tube now...... xx

Couldn't have watched with food!! It was fascinating viewing, so glad I'll be asleep when it happens. Although not sure I should have watched it BEFORE it's done to me!!.The whole procedure only took 46 minutes, condensed down to 28 for the video! There was no bag involved though, everything was pulled out vaginally. Do you think there really is a bag involved or was the consultant trying to be funny!!?
I don't think so, perhaps you could ask when you go for pre op? I need to know now.
Makes you wonder how they put everything into a bag inside you?? I'll ask my consultant when I go for my next check, sorry that's not until January though. I've always wondered that, I'm a Grey's Anatomy fan and have often seen this happen in their 'surgeries' and it has always puzzled me.
I had three similar sized cysts on my ovaries and apparently it was taken out through my belly button cut. Doctor told me he'd have to "shoot'' me if he told me his secrets!

I had a BSO and TLH through robotic keyhole on the 1st of this month This took 5 hrs to do... also had alot of Endo around my bowels which i was diagnosed having stage 4. I am not 4 days post op and feel fine.. a little tendor but feeling great. I am sleeping alot and drinking alot of fluids but can honestly say my specialist is a miracle worker x
