Last summer I had shingles in the mouth - mental nerve distribution. I believe it was caused by the hygienist treatment - ultrasonic descaler (my feedback on this is that it feels like a pneumatic drill with a sandblaster - shell shocked after treatment). The shingles - sickening for it symptoms occurred a week after. I had 3 of these ultrasonic descaler treatments in four months. Ps I was not stressed.
First question is do you think it is possible to get shingles in this way?
Second question I do not believe I needed this amount of hygiene treatment but it was a case of 'bums on seats' and a culture of 'not questioning'. So should a hygienist query a need for treatment if it appears unnecessary/the teeth look fine?
Hygienist - Use a mirror to show the patient what are you are cleaning and therefore why you are cleaning.
Help please especially with the first question.
