Moderate Calcification

Good morning all, I was recently invited for a lung check and have been recalled as the scan showed moderate Calcification.

As I like to be proactive and believe this is due to fatty diet, are there any recommendations for menus that will halt (improve?) This condition.

My brother dies with this condition over 30 years ago. My husband has had HA, stent, valve + triple bypass so we will both benefit.

I think I do the right thing. Nothing fried, very few ready meals (although MandS lasagne is a monthly treat) and all cooked from scratch. My biggest weakness though is a weekly rib eye steak, but in the interests of health I can give that up.

I'm 73 yo and recently diagnosed with hypertension and on 2.5 mg ramipril. Had 2 episodes of breast cancer in the last 10 years and still taking Letrozol. I am overweight too.

Any advice welcomed.

Do you eat much sugar/simple carbs? There have been studies suggesting a link between sugars and calcification too, so it's also something worth considering cutting back on.

Omega 3 is also said to be beneficial for calcification, so it could be worth making sure you eat more omega rich fish (salmon, prawns, non-tinned tuna).

I would generally recommend you speak to a qualified dietician or registered nutritionist (it's important they're registered, as it means they're degree qualified), for more personalised feedback.

Unfortunately I love chocolate but have now insisted to my husband we eat more fish. Salmon and king prawns this week so it's a start. Thank you.

Dark chocolate should be ok, anything 70% cocoa or over (to cut down on the sugar). Could even be beneficial in small amounts, if you believe the hype.

I agree with Cooper27 . Has your doctor suggested either a low carb high protein or low carb high fat diet? Low carb high protein helps keep a person fuller longer.

Strangely (sarcasm here) despite the results of the CT scan going to my GP I haven't heard from them.I have an appointment with the CT team to explain the findings on 21st March. I'm hoping for dietary advice then.

Please let us know what the doctor says when you see them on the 21st of March.

I had a consultation with the cardiac team conducting the tests. They gave me diet sheets and exercise advice and recommended statins. My Q no was 18 so at the lowest point on their scale of worry but I will take all precautions. Take care.

I was on Ramapril for about 2.5 years. Was having a lot of night cramps in my legs, so GP put me back on Indapamide 2.5mg. So much better and BP still under control.

No, it's nothing to do with fat but everything to do with refined sugar and starch.
