Meal plans to lower cholesterol: Hello... - Healthy Eating
Meal plans to lower cholesterol
Please don't do that. You can lower your cholesterol by changing your diet, but the best evidence we have (which is also the best evidence we can ever have) is it will shorten not lengthen your life.
Hi Palpakerz. Just wanted to make sure you've had plenty of information from your GP or health professional about what "high cholesterol" means, and whether they've discussed with you the differences between HDL and LDL, and the ratio between the two. A "raised/high" cholesterol reading is not necessarily something that needs adjusting, although it is really important to understand your own very specific reading in relation to your overall health, not just general guidelines. Do you know which aspect of cholesterol was raised, how much raised, and what the ratio between the figures is? ... my own anecdotal experience is that my GP explained there is an "ideal ratio" between the two figures, and that is is possible for one/both figures to be raised to a degree, but it is more important whether the ratio between the two is in what it considered to be the ideal ratio for health.-- just my anecdotal experience though. Hope you're able to find good information to help make informed decisions for your health. Best wishes
The British Heart Foundation have a wealth of knowledge on this subject. You can find information and/or recipes online or send off for booklets. Diabetes UK also has some really good recipes on there. Although I don't have diabetes I still make some of their recipes as they are healthy alternative and also quite easy to make
Another good source is your GP nurse. They are trained to talk you through weight loss, cholesterol control and blood sugar control all through diet. It's a service that people often forget about. And it can all be done over the phone.
Good luck, let us know how you get on!
If you're looking for weight loss as well check out the BMI diet, it was originally developed for diabetics but has shown to be useful for non diabetics as it ensures that you have the right ratio of carbs, fats, sugars, proteins etc to keep you going and not feeling hungry.
