I follow a high calorie diet. My advice is to research diets carefully to see which one would be best for you.

Hi and welcome to the group, Clod42 . :-) Thank you for introducing yourself to everyone.

Do you have any allergies to medication/food and drink? Have you talked to the doctor either by video chat or in person about changing your diet/exercise routine? We have a Topics Section for different types of diets/ideas for meals and snacks. They are on the right hand side of the screen if you use a computer. They can be found on the bottom if you use a cellphone. I hope this helps. :-) Please feel free to continue asking questions and commenting/posting anytime. :-)

The Pioppi Diet by Aseem Malhotra. He's an NHS consultant cardiologist and has presented to MPs on what needs to change about NHS guidelines. It's a more refined version of the Mediterranean diet. It's the diet which Labour MP Tom Watson has followed. The book costs £8.99.

Mine is not a diet in the sense that I restrict what I eat in order to lose weight, but a weight loss of 7 kilos has been a side effect of my change of diet following my heart attack and stent three months ago. Essentially, I minimise saturated fats and triglycerides, avoid transfatty acids altogether, and I increased fibre and fruit intake. The main changes were not eating lunch out, cutting out red meat and processed meats altogether, and cutting out dairy, apart from low fat yoghurt.I have avoided added sugar for decades. I do eat white fish, oily fish or skinless chicken breast three or four times a week. My alcohol consumption is a little less, down from 10 units a week to 7. I was very active before the heart attack and have built up to the same exercise level since. My alcohol consumption is a little less, down from 10 units a week to 7.

At first it did take will power to avoid some of my favourite foods such as sausages, bacon, pork belly and ice cream, but I no longer crave them.

I did a lot of research and found this source very useful: nhlbi.nih.gov/files/docs/pu...

Good luck!

Any time l say the word DIET l gain weight... l now say EATING HEALTHY!

Starting your day with a healthy meal is my best suggestion. Best wishes... Granni B

Hi Clod42, I lost 15kg and my OH lost 10kg within months of changing our way of eating to Low Carb. I learned loads from diet doctor.com and my favourite recipes are on Headbangers Kitchen. We've maintained that loss for a number of years now and still eat low carb for the majority of the time. A good way to start is to cut out anything you are sure has sugar in and limit eating to three times a day - no snacking between. Try to focus on eating real food reducing any foods that have multiple ingredients on the ingredients label. There is lots of information online to help you understand how our bodies re-act to carbohydrates which would be worth listening to. I recommend Jason Fung, Eric Westman, Public Health Collaboration and our own Dr David Unwin. If you are on any medications do be sure to check with your Doctor before making big changes to the way you eat although hopefully your doctor would not promote the eating of sugary foods. I wish you the best of luck.
