The Scottish government are rolling out a payment card to help families on low incomes pay for healthy foods. It will include fruits, vegetables, formula and milks. I think this is a great idea - not only will it encourage healthy eating, it will help with the growing issue of food poverty in the UK. Lets hope it catches on, and will be introduced across the rest of the UK

Hi Cooper I think this is a great idea and agree that food poverty needs dealing with. As does food waste from the supermarkets...😊
The Healthy Start voucher scheme has been around for several years. I fear that it may be another scheme, poorly advertised, difficult to navigate and apply for, like so many other benefits.
Yes, the card is replacing vouchers. The Scottish government appears to have taken the idea and have brought it up to date. Unfortunately the English government has not and spending on the scheme appears to have reduced over the last few years. Not good in the light of increasing poverty levels.
Definitely not enough to feed a family, but I suppose it might cover at least a meal a day for the child? And it will help towards getting that 5-a-day target
It is definately a great start, and so pleasing : >
Hi Cooper, what a fantastic idea. My youngest daughter has two young girls and wants the girls to eat healthy snacks, they do love fruit but when it comes to things like pure fruit bars etc the price is ridiculous. This is a brilliant idea and thank you for sharing. Well done to the Scottish Government.
