No, it is not for everyone.

I don't think the ketogenic diet is meant to be the long term diet people are treating it as. From what I've heard of the diet, it's really meant to be used as a fast, followed for 2 weeks max, but preferably only a few days a week, a number of times a year.

I'm kinda curious to try it, just because people keep talking about it! But I don't view it as a way of life.

I was on it for about six months and ended up with very high cholesterol, so it wasn't for me. If the cholesterol had been just slightly raised I wouldn't have been concerned but it was extremely high. I have read somewhere that some people have this side effect on keto and they call them "hyper responders".

Anyway, with my doctor itching to write a statin prescription, I quickly changed to low carb, including plenty of oatmeal and oat bran in my diet and cutting the animal/saturated fats in favour of peanut butter and extra virgin olive oil. That strategy brought it down.

Keto has been shown to be beneficial for people with epilepsy who are out of other options, eg drugs. For me, that's it. For this group of people the benefits outweigh the risks. For anyone else the substantial side-effects are ignored at your peril. At any rate a keto diet should ONLY be done under medical supervision.

Hi Maligno

I saw this article entitled "Does the Ketogenic Diet Work for Type 2 Diabetes?" and it has some interesting contents that you might like to look at. The article is written for 'Women's Health' but the content of the article is general I think:

Nope. Not for me.

My mum was interested in it at one point as she was watching this dr on youtube who praises the ketogenic diet.

This doctor does sound good and he’s very knowledgable when it comes to the body but according to him you had to take all kinds of supplements for certain parts of the body that my mum wasn’t really a fan of.

She soon found a vegan dr on youtube who sounds great as well and he doesn’t take any supplements or very small amount.

I don’t think you really need supplements or a lot of them.

I don’t think keto is for me. However my dad is diabetic and lost a lot of weight on it. He’s getting bored of it though and finds himself bingeing on junk foods and pizza. 😏.
