Thanks for flagging this up, Matt. The recommended list of oils is spot-on. Worth mentioning that, if you buy raw palm oil (the reddish stuff) it's usually sustainably grown and harvested. In fact properly-grown palm oil is one of the most environmentally-friendly food products you can buy: contrary to popular reports, most palm oil is NOT grown in destroyed rainforests because of the cost of transport, which would eat into slim profit margins. The oil palm is a long-lived tree and it's typically cultivated with a dense cover crop or an intercrop, which provides habitat for animals and protects the soil. Pesticides are usually not necessary. It's also very high-yielding per unit area. Compare that with, for example, the cultivation of canola.

Hi Matt2584,

Brilliant information, I will read and digest this as I do use a lot of oil. 😇

This article goes on about oils as being beneficial, but the omega 6-3 ratio of oils is very poor. Even the much touted olive oil as a ratio of over 12-1 in the wrong direction. See wikipedia for a comprehensive table at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratio.... If you don't like wikipedia I am sure there are other sources.

By maintaining a non-refined fats whole food plant based diet with ground flax seeds, chia seeds etc my o3 to o6 ratio is around the much vaunted paleo man ratio of around 1-1.

Hi Matt, Zest shared your post for the month of May and I'm so glad she did. I read it through and have now saved the safe and not safe oils list. This matter on oils on what is the healthiest has always confused me in the past but no longer. Coconut all the way for me from now on.

Once again, thank you for sharing.

Hi, crazy,

No problem for sharing, glad it helped out :).

I use more coconut oil now for certain things as well.

Instead of face wash I wet my face with tap water, dry off then wipe on coco oil and I also use coco oil as a mouthwash AKA oil pulling.

Oil pulling is an ancient thing but once people thought “Lets invent something that can clean teeth, freshen breath and make us richer”, most of the population forgot about the old remedy (which is very similar to commercial mouthwash).

In other words, doing things the natural way using natural ingredients saves you a ton of money.... something the big wigs wouldn’t be too happy about if everyone got on board.

By the way, Katie Wells, the Wellness mama (wellnessmama.com) has 101 uses for coco oil.

A lot of the uses are probably a bit pants to me and plus also some are gender related such as using coco oil to wipe off mascara.

Wow thank you Matt for the extra information, the mouthwash really appeals to me.

You've helped be so much with the oils as I've been wracking my brains and constantly researching on the internet for the best days and oils, no more veg oils for me as I'll just buy more coconut oil and use it regularly.

Once again, thank you.

Also a big thank you to Zest for sharing May's posts as if it wasn't for zest then I wouldn't have known.😀

No problem at all crazy :), glad I was able to help :).

According to Wellness mama and some other websites, you're supposed to use the coco oil as a mouthwash/oil pulling for about 20 minutes... yes, 20 MINUTES!

some websites do 10 minutes but I usually do 5 minutes at least.

I usually sit in a chair while I use my peddle pusher (for exercising) and listen to some music.

in reply toMatt2584

Thank you Matt.

That's quite a long time so what an excellent idea to use your pedal pusher whilst doing this😀

Thanks.

It’s boring just sitting there counting down ten minutes or so.

Usually listening to a couple of songs and exercising at the same time can take around ten minutes and the time whizzes by too.

I wouldn’t want to have to do it the “proper” way and count 20 minutes just to clean your teeth. I’ve got other things in the day I want to cover.

I will say though, years ago when I first started oil pulling I was counting in my head for ten minutes.

I have sensitive teeth and I was using Sensodyne tooth paste.

The Sensodyne did work for a bit but it didn’t last.

After doing a few weeks ten minute bouts of oil pulling, my teeth were less sensitive.

But now I can’t be bothered to sit around for ten minutes even and my teeth can be a little sensitive to cold.

Ah well.

I think listening to the music and exercising can take around 5 or 6 minutes.

in reply toMatt2584

I agree, very boring.

Bonus, you get to exercise without even really thinking about it and it's doing you the power of good, what's not to like. I've never had sensitive teeth but my hubby has.

Listing to music and exercising at the same time is actually enjoyable, unless you're on a indoor exercise bike, I find though very boring.

:)
