Hi badger187

Welcome to the Healthy eating forum. I hope you're enjoying your Retirement so far, and Congratulations on achieving the Couch to 5Km, that is brilliant!!! :-)

I hope you'll enjoy participating here, and that you'll have a look at our various Pinned posts and Topics, to see what interests you.

You mentioned your cholesterol, so I wanted to give you a link to another Healthunlocked forum that you might also find helpful, which is called 'Cholesterol Support', and a link is here, if you want to have a look:

Hi. Congrats on achieving the C25k. I am 59, to be 60 in Dec and i have set myself this goal of achieving a 5k run as a complete never ever runner before Im 60. Its a struggle. I am at Wk 3 having done 1&2 πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ. What kept you going and had you run before? Its given me a real spring in my step as i have a sitting down job, doing a sitting down degree, and when not doing that im welded to the sofa. Like you i also need to get the eating into gear. But well done

Hi Jasmin, you've started an amazing journey as you already realise!! :-) What kept me going was the support and encouragement from this group, plus the great tips and advice. And last but not least the amazing feel good fact after each and every run, no matter how difficult they may have been!!! I had tried running briefly before, about fifteen years and gave up as I couldn't get a pace / breathing established. That is why this program works; very best wishes and good luck to you, and well done for starting the journey x

Can i ask you about your body reactions to this running? Im about to embark on Wk3 but im constantly aching like mad. All my limbs, my knees hurt when going upstairs, my arms and shoulders ache in bed! Im a walking ache. Im dragging myself round a bit. Is that normal? How long does it last?

Thanks

Hi Jasmin, I have to say I have not really felt achy, I have always been a hiker and enjoyed cycling. And my knees have actually been better since I started running!! The only aches I have felt is achy lower legs whilst running. I was advised to relax with it and keep well hydrated. I also find a banana before a run is great for energy. Maybe worth getting a gait analysis done to check you are wearing the correct shoes for your running style. Hope the aches ease soon :-) You will get there!! Best wishes
