Organic September is coming...πŸ₯•

β€’6 Replies

Hi everyone, sales of organic produce has increased to 7.1% as the demand is growing.

Organic veg is bought not necessarily because it has more but because its free of nasties. And as there's been a lot in the news about Roundup recently and we know about organophosphates, so like others I am happy to pay more for less...I think organic tastes nicer sometimes simply because I know how its been grown.

I also feel that we also have a duty of care to protect our wildlife. πŸ¦‰

All the veg in the photo are organic except the baby sweet peppers so it was buy them or go without. The strawberries are English and delish...πŸ“

So if any of you have photos of home grown fruit or veg then we'd love to see them we love photo's of food anyway...for some reason. 😊

This looks lovely Jerry. I think organic is the best way to go especially for vegans as we eat so many more vegetables and it’s not nice to think they have been sprayed with nasties and as you said not good for wildlife either. We have an organic farm near us and they deliver an organic veg box to the door every Thursday and then I top up with organic vegetables from the supermarket in between.

Here is a list of the dirty dozen. The most pesticide ridden foods so best to buy organic where you can...

Strawberries

Spinach

Nectarines

Apples

Grapes

Peaches

Cherries

Pears

Tomatoes

Celery

Potatoes

Sweet Bell Peppers

In my garden, I have a small area to grow a few veg. Due to the hot weather, it has been a bumper year for some veg and difficult for others. It is a joy to grow organically and for some reason this year was virtually pest free with cucumbers normally growing to 8-10" are reaching 15-16". Maybe I have finally achieved some balance in my garden of soil, pests and predators allowing a wide variety of wildlife into my garden.

It is important that we look after our planet which is where organic scores highly. A harmonious way of growing food is important for the planet and this is no different for a harmonious way to eating, health etc.

IMHO everyone should grow and eat at least one item (could be Basil on a windowsill) so that you get that excitement and connection back to where our food comes from.
