Those homegrown mushrooms looks fantastic, I bet they will be incredibly flavourful. Are you going to put them outside in the sunshine for a bit of Vitamin D sun-bathing?
I shall look forward to reading those links later today - and thanks for the reminder about the Harvest Festival - I didn't realise it was that time of year already!
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend, and an enjoyable British Food Fortnight!
Thats a great point Zest and they are indeed sunbathing now so thanks for the reminder.
And I hope that you and everyone else enjoys the weekend and some local produce. π
Hi Jerry
The homegrown mushrooms look great, I love mushrooms.
Thank you for the links, I've read the first one completely and its great that we celebrate food grown in this country. What I find difficult to understand is that I see field after field of sweetcorn (I saw loads of sweetcorn as we were driving on the motorway today) and yet wherever I buy it, I don't mean my local organic farm, it's from another country. We really should be eating our own produce. It's great we have British Food Fortnight.
We can grow so much in our climate, my mum used to grow all her own veg, it tastes beautiful. When we eventually move, I'm getting there convincing my husbandπ, I'm hoping to have a house/bungalow with a level garden so I can grow my own vegetables.
I can't eat much fruit because of the fructose.

Thanks Alicia and you are so right about locally grown veg I'm eating some at the moment and the taste is so much nicer.
Your mum obviously had a great influence on you with your fond memories of her growing veg and I that that is so good.
I have fond memories of harvest time as a child as it was a time of plenty and a celebration of the harvest festival. π

Oh it certainly does taste good when it hasn't travelled miles. The sweetcorn I had from the local farm tasted delicious.
My mum was amazing, she had green fingers.
I remember taking food to Harvest Festival.

Sounds great to me I picked some blackberries for a crumble and it was lovely. π
I used to grow a lot of veg itβs a rewarding hobby. Some friends organise a growing competition every year, they pick a veg, hand out seeds and then have a get together where they judge the produce in different categories, including fancy dress π give prizes and everyone cooks a dish with the said ingredient for a buffet. Itβs fun, I dressed up beetroots as Betty Boo ππ one year and got 2nd prize.
This week we have Swiss chard, runner beans, raspberries and sweet corn from our garden. I made a Swiss chard and feta tart using gram flour pastry on Friday which was very tasty.
Hi Callyv this sounds a wonderful cropraspberries are my favourite fruit and I love those veggie.
Your Swiss chard and feta tart with gram flour sounds delicious. So if ever you want to post some photo's then please do as we love photo's of each others goodies on here. π
