Lambs in the fields not on my plate

I cannot claim to be a vegetarian - at least not yet - but seeing the newborn lambs in the fields for the first time this week, I can never bring myself to eat lamb. Sounds a bit wimpish perhaps - or even hypocritical as I am not a vegetarian - but that's just me ... food for thought perhaps.

I don't think It's wimpish or hypocritical at all - shows you are thoughtful and empathetic which are great qualities.

Thanks so much for that. I guess I might be moving in a 'veggie direction'.

You're welcome :)

'direction' is a good way of thinking about it, for some people labels like 'vegetarian' can be helpful and an important part of their identity, for others less so and they are happy to just eat less meat or avoid certain types of meat without ever declaring themselves vegetarian or vegan or whatever - and that's absolutely ok in my view, everyone has the right to find their own path.

Everyone has their own diets and beliefs. You’re doing fantastic with your own way of doing things. Keep it up.😀👍

If it's any help, 'lambs' are usually slaughtered at around 7 months for a 20kg carcass weight, male animals probably a bit earlier. But yeah, 7 months isn't very long whichever way you look at it.

Personally I don't like the idea of keeping animals ONLY for meat. Ideally, they should have some other economic purpose so that they pay for their upkeep and can live as long and as normal a life as possible before slaughter. The profit margins on meat animals - at least those raised in the manner approved by the Men With Clipboards - is typically close to zero, and I'm really quite surprised anybody even bothers to stay in that industry.

Here's how I like to see 'Spring Lamb'

A vegan friend became so when her 4 year old daughter made the connection between the pretty baby lambs they'd seen on a walk that morning, & what she'd been served for lunch.

Hi, I’m also just starting on that journey at nearly 50! I did lots of reading then decided to cut meat out of my diet about four weeks ago. I must admit it’s been quite easy and pushed me to try foods I never would have chosen in restaurants. Good luck with whatever you choose
