Can anyone recommend a good grease remover? Did realise my cooker needs a good scrub until we moved it back 😱

Hi ShadowDee,
How about using vinegar? This article explains how to use it, and it's cheap:

Hi ShadowDee
I see Zest has given you a very good reply and one that is natural rather than all those horrid oven cleaners with chemicals.
About 4 months ago I gave my oven a very good clean and it took ages and I had used one of those horrid cleaners with chemicals and I vowed then that I would never use one with chemicals again. What I do now is every time I use my oven I clean it and it doesn't take long at all so no more cleaning ovens for about 2 hours at a time with lots of mess.
Also, if there is anything really stuck on I use the hob scraper as the blade just gets rid of marks that are stuck on the oven.
Giving it a good clean but love the idea of cleaning up after each use. It's going to be a mission cleaning inside of it.
I have certainly found it worth it as it doesn't take much to keep it that way. The hob scraper certainly works well.
I have also seen a very good response from BadHare and deejames - soon you will be looking at a gleaming oven
I don't think I've ever cleaned my oven as it's only been used for veggie things. I remember my son spending an entire day cleaning the wreckage of the oven his flatmate had greased up in a year.
My hob's a different, & very messy matter. Will a hobscraper be k for steel?
Hi BadHare
I would say as long as you keep the hob scraper flat when cleaner a steel hob you will be fine as you won't be digging in to the metal using it that way.
My oven gets splashes of grease on it when I cook my husband's chips in the oven as it's the oil I use that splashes. Also, when I cook roast potatoes the oil splashes.

Thanks Alicia!
I put a silicon sheet in the bottom of the oven to catch any baking drips, though foil would work, too.

I also have a silicon sheet at the bottom of my oven so that does stay clean. My sheet is a pain though as when you open the oven door is can 'fly' out of the oven if you're not careful as it's so lightweight. I weigh it down with a small oven tray.
Also, I am going to follow your tip re bicarbonate of soda and vinegar, the soda and vinegar are amazing for their cleaning properties.
I am so glad I keep the oven clean now though as I hated having to clean a very dirty oven.

Try a good sprinkle of bicarbonate of soda, then squirt with vinegar. I add grapefruit zest to the white or white pickling vinegar ,so the smell is pleasant, & it’s not toxic.
I don't use chemicals but my E...o cloths ( see not advertising) clean grease beautifully with only water.
