I found this amazing list of vegan cheeses! I had no idea. The only 'non-cheese' I've tried was a supermarket variety made with coconut oil. Although it had a cheesy texture (like those rubbery cheeses you find) I could not get that excited about it. But now! Well, plenty to test:
I've tried violife and did not rate it! Very plasticky and not convincingly cheese like at all But my recent Tyne Chease purchase, also featured on there, is delicious. I'm also very encouraged to see so many options, some of which look familiar from various health food shop vegan cheese displays that I've browsed, but which I've been too uncertain to actually pick anything up from and try...

Yes! I realised that's the one I tried and I didn't like it. As you say, rubbery. Well, I bought the Macadamia truffle one so am really looking forward to that. Way too expensive for regular buying but hopefully will be a once-in-a-blue-moon treat! Most of the others are also made from coconut oil, but certainly worth a try.
I'll look out for the coconut oil ones, which I didn't know existed, thanks!!!
I've only liked nut based cheeses, so far, & only tried them home made. All the soy versions I've tasted have caused mouth ulcers within 30 minutes of eating them, so hate to imagine how processed they are.
I don't have hashi's but avoid soy as it stopped my thyroid meds from working. It took 6 expensive months to learn the hard way, & prior to this getting fatter & more hypo from eating unfermented soy every day.
Great article!
Thanks for sharing that!
Gonna get a couple of these in the next couple of weeks I think!
CIAO is delish. I’ve only seen it in slices. I eat them with my BLT and my turkey sandwiches. “Bacon” and “turkey” are tofu.
