Balancing Diabetes and Gout

Hi - I've been diabetic for 20 years (insulin and tabs) & overweight but have settled into a healthy balanced diet that keeps me on an even keel (more or less!). Just diagnosed with gout and it seems the recommended diet suggests avoiding so many foods that are now my staples - no oily fish, no shellfish, no cod/haddock, no offal and only moderate amounts of red meat, cauliflower and peas. How do others manage? Thanks in hope!

  • The worst offenders for uric acid are fructose, alcohol and excess protein. In your case, it looks like you may need smaller protein portions and more natural fat.

  • Thanks for this - I'm just hungry for info at the moment!
