Hi!

I'm 30 yrs old female, my ferritin level goes down very low to 10.8, due to which I'm suffering from severe hair fall it's really depressing. Please suggest me something, I want to boost up my ferritin quickly.

You should speak to your pharmacist. My ferritin level was 9 and I was put on ferrous fumarate by my GP. You can buy iron tablets from the pharmacy without prescription but ideally you should see your GP first. I'm sure your pharmacist will advise

You are best seeing your GP to discuss reasons for the low levels. I discovered mine was 6 and was prescribed Ferrous Fumarate although cheaper to buy direct from pharmacy.

Ferrous Fumarate I'll buy then.

My ferritin crept up from 13 to 20 after 2 months on ferrous gluconate twice daily, then up to 25 after a further 2 months. My GP wanted me to take 3 daily but the higher dose gave me nausea and the runs - as did ferrous sulphate and ferrous fumarate.

It's a slow old process but I hope you see an improvement soon. Good luck!

I'd start with the cheapest! That's what my GP prescribed for me (good old frugal NHS). I ended up with the most expensive as I couldn't tolerate the others. Doesn't cost me tho' as I'm over 60 lol!

Ferrous ascorbate and glycinate are the best but costly.

Ferrous fumerate - the cheapest and equally effective - to be taken just before bed preferably with lemon water because ferrous form is converted to ferric form before absorption. Ferric is the only form to get absorbed. Vit C helps this conversion.

Also avoid Fe with calcium - all dairies and legumes - phytates. Also absorption good on empty stomach. At night avoids most of the discomforts.
