Always thought multivitamins where a waste of money..
I don't think they get past the stomach acid so they wont work.
Its the tablets that are a waste because they are made of powder.
A lot of the nutrients clash, or vie for the same receptors. Best to find out what you need, & get the nutrients from food, or take good quality supplements appropriately with foods that help absorption. I take iron with fruit as vitamin C is essential to absorb it, vitamin D3 wth nuts for oil, & magnesium at bedtime with water.
Good to keep highlighting this. The industry is making a fortune from misinformed ideas about imaginary deficiencies.

The report shows that non food state multivits have a low absorption and not easily digestible in the body. It is a different story if you take food state minerals (grown and extracted from a food source) which are highly absorbed and recognised by the body.
For example, Iron supplements are well known to cause constipation. I needed to take Iron for anaemia. I took a food state Iron supplement - no dark stools, no constipation.
It does not say whether supplementation is needed which was not the essence of the article. Even the statement by Sian Williams can be misleading. A blood test before and after. What are they checking for? Chromium - I doubt it? See Tibblington's reference to healthscams.org.uk/diabetes... on Chromium and Diabetes on why supplementation is beneficial.
A major concern is nutrient soil deficiency due to changes in farming methods since 1900. Have you seen how commercial strawberries are grown. I was astonished when I went to Kent seeing polytunnels of strawberries grown 4 feet in the air. No contact with the ground. Any micronutrients absorbed - I doubt it. Can I get everything from food - I am suspicious about commercial farming. I refer again to the above link and read "Soil Depleted of Trace Elements".
So I am not so convinced about a blanket statement of multivitamins and minerals are not worthwhile. The reason that I take food state vitamins is to ensure I get those micro nutrients in my body. I agree that a healthy diet should supply all we need but these days what is regarded as healthy food maybe deficient. So I will continue with food state multivits to hedge my bets; I will never take non-food state multivits because they are a poor product and badly absorbed.
If you are eating a healthy well balanced diet there should be no need to take supplements. Your body can only use so much of any nutrient, the rest will be either stored, which can lead to excess and ill effects or be eliminated in the urine which means it is a total waste of money
Supplements should only be used on medical recommendation
