I'm looking to start the 12 week programme and have never counted calories before. Can someone help me please?

How to count calories?
Hi Wizabeana,
Many people on the NHS 12 week plan use an app to help with the calorie counting. If you look in the NHS weight loss community there's a poll that has been done about the kinds of apps people are using. Personally, I use Myfitnesspal, and have found that really easy to use. It's free, and you can look at reports and graphs of your progress using it.
But maybe have a look at the poll in the NHS weight loss community and see what other people are using, and see what you think.

Apps are an excellent way to make it easier. I have found Nutracheck the most user friendly, if you dont mind paying £2 a week. ☺
I have used MyFitnessPal religiously for the last month and it has been very enlightening. I have found that I am eating too many carbohydrates and too much natural sugar and have now cut down my portion size. It is a great app and if you use it and log everything for a week or so you can copy foods and meals easily from day to day if common. I half heartily used it a couple of years ago but having come back to it recently it is now helping me control my intake. I recently found it links to my Fitbit which I have used for last 9 months to track my exercise - now I get a full view of my calorie intake and expenditure.
Thanks guys. Will have a look soon. I want to understand everything before I start programme. I do know that wotsits are 90kcal 🤗
