I have lost a great amount of weight over the last two years and it's all because of a book called beyond chocolate it tells you to listen to your body and only eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full no catches and no counting or going without sharing this as I hope someone else has success with it too x

I don't think anyone needs a book to say , drink when you're dry, eat when you're hungry, and stop eating when you're full, it's common sense

Sorry I misunderstood you and I know it is common sense

Is it common sense? What if you never feel hungry or never feel full. I have days where I know I should eat but I am not hungry. I have other days were I feel hungry all day long no matter how much I have eaten I never feel full.

Just how I feel, Kate. Like I can't trust my body to give out the right signals. Sometimes I even feel like I want a cigarette - I gave up smoking a couple of years ago - but it could be thirst or hunger or something else altogether.

Still on the high fat low cal diet, and exercise ,lost 2 stone, feel a lot better cravings for sweet food stopped, can keep to 3 meals a day ,which I could never have done with other diets I have been on, its finding what works for you

So if I am only to eat when I am hungry why is the NHS insisting I eat 3 meals a day?

Congrats to you, gemmalo06 on your weight loss. Perhaps serving size and eating for other reasons besides hunger were your problem. So glad you've found success!

For other people, according to Why We Get Fat by Taubes and Fat Chance by Lustig, there are 2 hormones that go out of whack on a high carb diet- ghrelin and leptin. One tells your body when it's full, the other when it's hungry, don't remember which is which. But if the hormones don't operate as they should, that's one reason some people never feel full. When you consistently eat loads of grain products (cereal, bread, pasta, rice) and sugar, it messes up your hormones, and gaining weight is inevitable. There's lots of info available online now about those 2 hormones, and about the role of insulin in weight gain. The constant barrage of glucose when you eat that kind of diet wreaks havoc with your body.
