Medical assessment.

I suffered a stroke in October and had an assessment at the job centre last week. I'm expecting a letter in a week or two saying that I'm fit for work. The medical assessor (a big fat east european) never looked at any of the paperwork I gave him, including hospital appointments, info on polycythemia which I was diagnosed with in 2007 and other information. Has anybody else had this sort of experience?

I haven't had experience of this but if you experience difficulties try speaks to Headway or the CAB for advice. Failing that contact your M.P. good luck x

Yes, the CAB were brilliant with me in dealing with a similar issue. They assisted in a letter of appeal then accompanied me to the tribunal, where my appeal was upheld.

yes, I had to go back for a further assessment. Somewhere is their rules is a bit that said brain injury 'clients' would need to be seen by a doctor and not just an assessor. This was when they first started the interview process and it was trialled in Coventry area. I believe that it is still part of their contract to supply the service.

My neuro-psychologist advised me to go armed with a list of consultants being seen and to stress that all were ongoing. I found CAB of no use whatsoever and had to ask for reassessment/appeal on my own even visiting my MP who wrote in support.

Hi I had a job centre medical. It was a Chinese doctor that I seen all I remember him sayin to me is ' an this is your signature on the form ' and ' I under stand ' then 3 wks later they stopped my benefits so I had to appeal which I won

Pity they don't chase the lazy people that's been in benefits since leavin school I'm still only gettin ESA an I'm now 16 months after my op ! Benefits is a minefield I've never asked for help before but when u need it you can't get it !

i failed the medical (im a tbi sufferer) I had help with my appeal from welfare rights an won im currently waiting for my claim to be put right good luck

As expected I didn't score enough points to qualify for Employment & support allowance after my assessment. I feel like stopping taking the medication that I take & stop going to hospital because they said that basically that there is nothing wrong with me & am fit for work. It's as if a stroke is not a serious health issue. My life has changed completely but the hideous people who work at the benefits office seem to know best. I just think it would be fairer if they gave you more time to see if you could recover. They don't take into account how you feel or what you are going through. Maybe suicide is the best way for me, because I don't have a life, just an existence.
