Hi elizasmart382,
Thank you for your question, and best of luck writing your book of brain injury stories.
We've added a new poll to ask about the age at which people sustained a brain injury (inspired by your question!) so hopefully the results of that will be useful to you.
If you need any information and brain injury statistics etc. to help with your book, don't hesitate to contact our helpline on 0808 800 2244 or helpline@headway.org.uk.
Best wishes,
Headway.
Elizabeth although stats place young people in a more at risk category for TBI, (possibly because the young take more risks generally and are more likely to be involved in activities that could result in serious injury if things go wrong) it is important to remember that survivors do not remain young...there are lots of people out there in middle or late life who also sustained a brain injury in their youth. The Headway poll might give a better indication of this... I wish you luck with your book...please do let us know when it is finished/available.
Hi, following on from that it may be useful (depending on what form the book takes) to get some stories from 'the oldies' about care, rehab etc and even the type/cause of injury. I for one would be fascinated to see what - if anything, has dramatically changed considering the radical improvements in medicine in say the last 25 years. Also a comparative study with another area of medicine would be good to see if equality was there. But that's just me!!
OOps sorry Eliza... I read your name as Elizabeth
