Advice if possible.

Happy new year everyone. I'm new to this so don't have any idea what I'm doing 😀 I'm having (annie) my aneurism clipped on Monday. Just wondered if anyone can advise me on do's and donts. I think its the not knowing what to expect after the operation is most stressful.😀😀

Hi Mollie. I had a ruptured aneurism which was coiled via a catheter from the groin. Less invasive than clipping obviously, but methods are determined by accessibility of the aneurism or surgeon's choice of method.

Every outcome is different. Mine was considered highly successful and I was mobile within a couple of months then home after another month in rehab.

My main issue at first was a constant headache. But after a couple of weeks it was thought to be from medication overuse and, after stopping pain relief, the headache eased.

Apparently I was agitated and confabulating for a couple of weeks after surgery, but gradually regained awareness .....to the relief of loved ones. They were, however, assured that talking 'gobbledegook' is very much par for the course in any brain injury.

I thought my daughter was a neighbour and thanked her (loudly) for taking the trouble to visit. Once home, and safe to joke about it, my son & daughter took great pleasure in recalling my many meanderings.

No one can predict how any one surgery or longer-term progress will go. But with our highly skilled brain surgeons and amazing technology you'll be in good hands.

Whenever you're ready and able, please update us on how it went and how you're feeling. If you have concerns in the meantime, you just have time to speak with staff at the helpline before the weekend. The number is freephone 0808 800 2244 Mon-Fri.

All best wishes Mollie . . . .hope to hear from you later. 🙂 Cat x

I was 'lucky' in that my haemorrhage was spontaneous so no pre-nerves. But I know the scary anticipation from other surgeries.

Please do come back & tell us all about it Mollie.

I'll think of you on Monday.

See you when you're ready m'love.... Cat. Xx

Hi Mollie,

I have not experienced this.

I have had other surgeries though, so I do understand how nerve wracking it can be, especially the first time. It's normal to have some trepidation about it all. Just try to keep breathing normally, prepare as much you can practically - do you have what you need for aftercare? Someone to get your rx's? or can you get them in advance? That kind of thing... Then just breathe and try to focus on other things.

I wish you all the best.

Please keep us posted.

Hi Molliepops, welcome to our page here you will find lots of support and advice as you need it. I had my Annie coiled in 2013 then again in 2017 after it ruptured, so your lucky as having it clipped removes it so that should be the end of it, unfortunately for me I can only have coils as there is limited access, so can’t be removed and the little devil is very unpredictable. What you do have to remember is these surgeons know what they are doing, they do it daily, and you couldn’t be in safer hands. Your surgeon will also prep you on what to expect afterwards to, so just try to take it in your stride, at the end of the day I was relieved to have my surgery as living with the ticking time bomb was the alternative, and was a worry in itself. You never mentioned where your aneurysm is or what area you live in, but please come back and hopefully we can reassure you if you don’t lots of luck for Monday love Alice xx

Mine is on the middle cerebral artery. I first went to have the op on the 18th December but got cancelled 10 minutes before I went to theatre due to no bed available. I'm from bromsgrove which is in Worcester... the midlands. . I chose the clipping because I just want it gone ... your right it's a ticking time bomb... the stress and anxiety is dreadful x

That is where my Annie is
