God, I'm on a break away in Turkey, just said to my girlfriend, these holidays take it out of me, long days, up at crack of dawn, bed late at night, taking paracetamol 2-3 times a day, 4head stick, the heat, it's not enjoyable no more, it's one hell of a crap life, a said to my girlfriend, a feel like ringing that headway helpline when a get home, ya know what she said?, she said ya know what they'll (as in headway) say? "don't go on holiday!" Can't win, shud just stick me in a cardboard box and put me in't cupboard under stairs lol

Hi Phil,

Know how that feels I’ve not had a holiday for 5 years now because of Covid and then got out of the habit.

What I found before then was cruises, perfect cos lots of taking it easy, plus able to rest while still being away.

So, we’re off on a cruise in 2 weeks, holidaying at my pace.

Another solution is short breaks so you don’t have a long stretch in front of you.

Thinking of you

Jx

All the planning sounds good but the reality is so draining. You get used to routine and as soon as you deviate from it, bang in comes brain strain/fog whatever you call it. Just chill and let others arrange things, stick in ear plugs to stop the noise that may help.

I am sure there will be a holiday that can work out for you. Even a quiet BnB somewhere pretty? Or a cruise as suggested above

I used to fly off for city breaks and bike riding holidays but that’s a thing of the past for now

I just did a tiring but amazing van trip around Wales. Sleeping in and moving on after tea in bed and a leisurely breakfast. Lots of walks and stopping to look at views, listen to wind in the trees and watching birds. I choose not to fly and do busy places now. It’s been wonderful. A change and a time away from home with no internet and no fixed plans.

This trip didn’t workout for you but do t be too down. Find something that will bring you joy and do more of it! (That was advice from my therapy team) do more of the good stuff and avoid the things that make you feel ill.

Sounds lovely to be away in the sunshine. But also sounds like you're doing too much. How does it compare to a day at home? Can you put rest times in through the day if you are up earlier and to bed later?

Keep falling asleep on sun lounger, trying not ruin it for my gf, bin taking paracetamol everyday, using one of them 4head sticks, I'm not the most fun person to be around but it's the headaches and fatigue which no1 understands about 😕, supposed be goin Tunisia in September, gf's 2 daughters comin with us then though so I can get more rest lol, onwards and upwards, how does it compare to a day at home, a day at home sounds like bliss right now lol

Your girlfriend needs to learn that she has a bf whose physical needs are different to hers. If you both slow it up, she might enjoy it more.

I go with the family but tell myself - 'Nobody is going to give you a prize for having climbed a hill, or seen every painting in a gallery. Do what you can do',

But DON't put yourself in a cardboard box at the bottom of the stairs, mentally. That is not what you asked for . Do what you can and leave the rest to her.

And by all means tell us. Me, i was delighted to know that you fall asleep on the lounger. Not just me then. 😀

Take care. And have a lovely time.

Headaches & fatigue are a nightmare. Both so draining. Sounds like next trip may be easier with more people going.
