Head injuries

I fell 2 months ago, and the neurologist fond small cracks on my brain. He went in and cleaned it up, but one side healed and the other side didn't. I am in so much pain and I have to wait until the end of December for more treatment. I just need to know what can I do for the pain until then.

My consultant gave me Amatriptyline for the pain saying it will take 7-10 days to work, if ever I have not taken it the pain returns. Could your doctor give you something along those lines to help until the end of the month, or ring the neurologists secretary and leave a message. Hoping you get relief soon.

Hello A. Welcome to the forum. So sorry to hear that this happened to you. So you cracked your skull, and had bleeds show up on scans? Have you been in touch with any of the USA brain injury organisations for some local support too? I think they have separate organisations depending on which state you live in. Is it headache / migraine pain you're suffering from?

Thank you for your response. I suffer from migraines really bad now. They fixed one side and it feels better. They have to go in and fix the other side this week. I just worry if I'm ever gonna feel better from all this.

Sympathies A , my injury wasn't as bad as yours, but I had 24/7 headache that escalated a few times a week into more migraine type headaches. My neurologist called it post traumatic migraine. I don't get it now unless I 'overdo' screen time. Typical over the counter painkillers don't tend to touch it, and standard migraine drugs half killed me - triggered terrible depression that stopped when the drugs did. How's your sleep? Not sure how old you are, but perhaps be wary of amitriptyline because it's one of the anticholinergic group of drugs. Best thing I did to alleviate it was being disciplined about taking regular 'brain breaks' ten - fifteen minute breaks from screens, light, noise, music, books once every hour. Literally lay down in the dark with your eyes closed (but set alarms). Low dose Duloxetine and specialist physio on my neck also helped me pain wise.
