I was sectioned last Sunday under the mental health act section 2. Three medical people came to the house and with my wife we answered a lot of questions. The medics all agreed and a red form was filled in. It was all explained and I was very anxious. It was two days later when I went into the hospital. My wife had phone calls on the Monday with updates and then on Tuesday a call for me that a room was available. A man came out but his car was to small for my wheelchair and equipment so we followed in our own car. The unit is run my merseycare mental health and the staff are amazing. The thing I'm finding the best is its not regimented. They will get you anything at any time like cups of tea coffee toast. I'm being plied with biscuits and fruit all the time. The room is large with wet room. I've had two wonderful baths with built in jacuzzi. Can't have baths at home cos it's upstairs. Thursday busy day with lots of different medical people examination me and questions. My wife came for big meeting in the afternoon. Down side the ward is securely locked. It is a bit confined but what can I do. I've not been started on any new meds yet but the diazepam are making me a bit doped. My window opens but it got a metal grill so not great looking out. There is an area in the middle of the unit I can sit out in. Only 12 rooms in the unit so that's good. Staff to patients ratio is very high. My voices are still there commanding me . I almost took a knife from the dinner area yesterday but was being watched. Am surprised they give out metal cutlery but the knife was prity blunt but still a knife I could harm myself with. So far it's not been anywhere near as bad as I expected. Thanks.
Sectioning experience so far.: I was sectioned last... - Headway
Sectioning experience so far.
Should have said all my belonging were searched on admission and visitors can't come to your room.
That's really good to hear Dave. You must be so relieved ! It sounds as if the unit has all the perks of a private one, and a generous staff to patient ratio has to be a massive bonus .......reassuring for both patients and their loved ones.
And your bathing treats😃; jacuzzi indeed !😮
I must say, Diazepam brought me from the depths of despair many years ago but I never felt doped ; maybe your dosage is much higher initially in order to minimize stress whilst you settle in...
I'm so pleased (& relieved) to see this update. We know you're there for assessment and serious treatment, but surely these favourable conditions can only assist that process.
Good luck going forward m'love. Keep the updates coming...

It's sounds really good so far Dave! Good luck with it.
I hope that things go well for you.
Great to hear it’s seems to be going well .. wry pleased to hear the cups of tea are flowing at any time of the day . the unit sounds great with only 12 beds and plenty of staff .. early days so your voices and thought patterns with take their time to alter . Slow and steady in the right direction with the occasional wonder off route is all ok .. but your post on here sounds very positive .. so that’s a massive move in yhe right direction .. looking forward to the next update .. best wishes Sue x
hi Dave it sounds like it is a place where you can get good treatment. Im so pleased you feel comfortable there.
I am doing well. Feeling better and the voices not as bad. I've been so blessed to get on this ward. Thanks for all the messages and encouragement.
So good to hear this m'love...🍀
