I have previously configured an Amazon Fire Tablet for my wife to have Google services but things like email removed along with Amazon shopping, eBay etc.
I set it up so she had access to Photos, BBC Sounds, YT Music and Amazon Prime Video but no opportunity to accidentally buy anything or send any random messages.
When I visited her today it seems to have done some sort of reset and gone back to a stock Amazon tablet unlinked to an Amazon account.
It was always a bit klunky and it was a real pain to set up so I'd like to get something else if I can so...
Has anyone set up an Android tablet for someone with cognitive issues that only has a limited set of apps available? When I've googled it I can find loads of stuff about parental controls, setting time limits etc but that's not really what I'm looking for.

Thanks both. I'm trying to avoid an iPad, only because we've both always been Android users. If it's do-able with Android it will be easier for me to set up and more familiar for her to use.
Have you been in touch with Abilitynet? They offer advice and training and have sent me handouts for a few things ( for an ipad but I am sure they will do android too) i also had a good phone conversation with them about remote access. Worth a try mcmw.abilitynet.org.uk/
The tablet arrived today and it was easier than I thought it was going to be. If anyone is trying to do the same thing in future and finds this in search results...
Basically I've:
> Set it up from scratch but declined the offer to reinstate all her apps from her other device apart from the few that I wanted.
> Deleted as many of the standard unwanted apps as I can
> Installed an app called App Lock (which has its own unlock code)
> Used App Lock to lock the unwanted but unremovable apps.
This works out quite well as it means I will be able to use the apps, settings, Play Store etc if I need to to maintain it for her.
