Things to do at home while recuperating from brain surgery

I had brain surgery about a month ago and I'm looking for suggestions for safe activities to keep me busy at home. I'm not supposed to do too much while I'm recuperating, no heavy lifting, not too much computer use, not too much paperwork, etc.. Audiobooks and podcasts are great. Are there other things that are safe to do?

Puzzles are great - jigsaws, crosswords, wordsearches, and ones on your phone. Lumosity is great, and free. Could buy some clay, the type that doesn't need firing, as it's good to use your hands manipulating stuff. Gentle exercises too. Good luck! X

Go with what your brain & body are telling you. If you're mobile, short walks are good for general fitness and can help boost feelgood hormones. If you need to rest afterwards it's important that you do. Music is a great healer so maybe listen to favourite CDs or music stations.

I walked once round the park or through local woods most days and found online card games & jigsaws pleasant distractions. Chatting here on Headway was really helpful too, especially if feeling a bit isolated. Crosswords (either online, in daily paper or crossword books) can be very absorbing, and helpful in improving memory & cognition.

An Amazon Kindle is great for reading books. If you're not familiar with these it's really simple downloading books (massive choice at competitive prices) and text can be easily magnified. It's true though that you need to limit screen time, especially whilst your brain is readjusting to stimulus.

Keep gently testing your limitations but not too far ! 🙂

Best wishes, Cat x
