Hi Sue, I did write a fairly long reply, but something went wrong, and it didn't save.

I would suggest that you speak to Headway about what support is appropriate for your daughter. They can help you with ideas as well as practical advice.

Also ask the GP for a referral to a Care Manager, they are appointed by the council (formally (Social Services), they can help with applying for benefits, adaptions if required, and support packages.

Also you can apply for council tax discount/rebate to when your daughter became unwell under the Housing Act, this is called Severe Mental Impairment (SMI). You can get an application form from the council, this is signed by the GP, the council cannot dispute this if the GP sign's. The GP cannot charge for this.

Hope this helps 🍀

Hi Sue and welcome.. Can you tell us some more about the effects on your daughter from her stroke and how she copes day to day. Also what ,if any, support she's had over the past 4 years ?

Hi cat, she’s been left with Apathy, cognitive problems, short term memory loss and she’s double incontinent 😔 it’s hard to know what support is out there for her

I'm so sorry to hear this Sue and can only imagine how difficult life has been for both you and your daughter.

As others have suggested, please phone the Headway helpline for advice, and for information on sourcing practical help. Their number is (freephone) 0808 800 2244 during office hours and staff are approachable and supportive.

Please stay in touch with us here ; this forum has given me such valuable support and friendship since my brain injury.

All best wishes, Cat x

Hi Sue,Welcome to the group no one really wants to have to join.

PoB and Cat3 have pretty much covered it.

Just want to add there are things out there for you as a support person, so don't forget to ask Headway about them, too.

Nice meeting you.
