I've had this problem since 1983. Theres too many stories to tell ππ I'll share one with ya. A dream of mine from a young age mid teens was learning to drive. Due to my learning difficulties post BI I didnt start any lessons till I was 26 but I lost interest very quickly. I started up again age 29 but was faced with the THEORY TEST my worst nightmare before the theory test came out it was practical skills for driving so I did well before. Anyway the Theory Test was so hard for me and I spent 9 or10 years secretly trying to learn what was needed to pass the theory test and I was 39 by the time I did my theory test. I just scraped through and passed it WHAT A MOMENT as my practical driving was spot on. I passed my driving test first FINALLY. I thought I'd cracked it but little did I know how difficult or impossible it would be for me to keep track of everything involved in running a car. I tried to take on a finance car 4 years ago which just ended in disaster and the car was repossessed 7 months later. Learning the paperwork side of driving i just couldnt do it I ended up losing the 1 thing I'd taken so long to achieve My Car. Having a car was so much more than a car it was my balance my mobility but most of all my FREEDOM.
What experiences have people had with the struggle to learn new information??π
I believe there is something like a 'mobility car, for people with disabilities. I don't know where you can apply for this, but it is a very good system, because they look after all the paperwork and are responsible for having the car serviced. I believe you do not own the car yourself but are allowed to use it. In the past I have had 2 such cars sold on to me which were 'mobility cars' and I've been very happy with them, also because they had low mileage and had been looked after very well.
I have a car from the Motability scheme. It's a great scheme and yes, it takes care of everything like insurance and breakdown cover. Here is a link to the website:
Stammers, if your PIP application is successful you can apply for a car through the Motability Scheme (youβd need to be in receipt of the enhanced rate of PIP). As Marnie says, the car dealership takes care of everything- insurance, breakdown and all the paperwork. They just need to see your PIP letter as proof.

Hopefully I will be successful with my claim and can look at a car through mobility and save me the embarrassment and frustration of trying to sort it myself I've tried so hard to keep a car on the road over the years fingers crossed πππ€π€
