I had TBI, then had a seizure, then had 12 months with no seizures, applied to get my driving license back, did the class room theory course (passed), then went on practical driving assessment (assessor in passenger and 2 OTs sat in the back), sent all the paperwork off to DVLA, GP sends his DVLA paperwork off, lots of waiting in between, eventually get my driving license with 3 years on it.
3 year driving license expired, DVLA request GP letter for me to get a new in date license. I need an in date license to get car insurance. See GP, completed all DVLA paperwork and send it all off.
New license arrived in the post, checking the new expire date on license - less that 6 months!
Why after driving for 3 years (seizure free), would they issue me a license with less than 6 months on it?
Anyone else experienced this or have any ideas on why DVLA have done this?
Thank you 🙏

Oh that's good ; I'm guessing that's the reason behind the short term license. I know some folk have big problems with the DVLA but I've always found them helpful. I updated mine recently with no bother....
Take care m'love, Cat x
Hi. I know people with MS and with epilepsy who’ve had all kinds of drama. I would ask DVLA for a copy of their medical regs.
Took me 5 years to get my licence back with severe brain damage.
I can only drive when I feel my bone pain and confusion goes a little.
The DVLA application you redid. Did you change anything from the original at all with changes in medication ?
I had to be careful because I get dizziness, but I definfatley won’t drive if I have it. And medication the asked me to swap brands and over to other medication that allowed me to drive, where my medication could of been on the DVLA banned drug list.
Also it’s Possible your GP added something like that.
Rule number one is stick with the same doctor for as long as you can. Someone who helps and not moans saying I have 2,500 patients. I’m not going to read them all.
Maybe the drug to help your epilepsy has changed where the DVLA is a bit cautious because you might fall a sleep driving or something.
Hope you solve your mystery.
I get mine for 10 years each time.
Hope this gives you an idea of why the DVLA is shortening you driving licence
